Summer’s Full Blast
If you are visiting Vermont during the month of August you are in for a treat. Summer is not in its “last blast” rather it is in full swing! Our fields are bursting with ripe blueberries, our farmer’s markets are overflowing with fresh produce and every weekend there is a county fair or festival to attend.
There are plenty of blueberry fields close to Burlington where families can spend an afternoon picking a quart or two of these plump, juicy fruits. Little pickers might eat more than they put in the bucket, but that is half the fun right? We have all organic farms and we have farms that play music while you pick in the evening. You can even pick blueberries, have a creemee and then grab some maple syrup to bring home.
While the Burlington Farmer’s Market is right outside Hotel Vermont’s doorstep, and it is certainly one of the best, sometimes we like to venture out to the one of the other farmer’s markets to see what our bountiful community has to offer. Vermont is deeply rooted to its food. You will find when you eat in our restaurants they will feature local products on their menus or that they proudly belong to the Vermont Fresh Network. If you are really serious about getting to know our culinary landscape, we’d suggest booking a Vermont Farm Tour.
It seems like just about every weekend in August you can find a good old-fashioned Vermont Fair for the kids. We’re talking about the kind with midway rides, cotton candy, the tilt-a-wheel, tractor pulls and milking parlors. If you are here at the end of the month you are in for a treat when the Champlain Valley Fair comes to town. It is 10 days of non-stop rides, food, competitions and entertainment.
