New family friendly updates from our friend Miss Magpie!
Summer in Vermont is a spectacular time to visit the Green Mountains. It is perfect for boating, beaches and biking with kids.
Want to get out on the lake for a few hours? I would recommend going out with Let’s Go Sailing to any family. They are available for day sails, sunset cruises and bareboat charters. The boat is clean, the crew is friendly and the whole process is completely hassle free. Just show up and they take care of the rest. If your feel comfortable enough to captain the ship alone or with your own crew, then rent a sailboat from the Community Sailing Center. They also offer lessons. After either of these nautical adventures, grab a bite to eat at Splash at the Boathouse it is one of the best places to take in Burlington’s picturesque landscape.
With a large sandy beach, grassy picnic area and a full service snack bar, families will love taking a taking a dip at the nearby North Beach. Plus if your family is looking for an aquatic adventure, you can also rent stand up paddleboards, canoes and kayaks there. Or head out a bit farther out of town to Sand Bar State Park, which boasts 2000’ of a sandy shoreline and water that remains shallow well out from the coast making ideal for families with young children.
Biking is one of our favorite things to do in the summer. Hotel Vermont has bikes you can borrow (at no cost). Jump right on the bike path and take it from Burlington and use your pedal power to go all the way up to South Hero Island if you can. Part of what makes this trail so unique is the Causeway, the portion of the trail that actually goes out over Lake Champlain and connects Colchester to South Hero by way of bike ferry.
